Simplify Your Holiday Gathering

Are you hosting a gathering of family or friends this holiday weekend?  Stop stressing about what food and drinks to serve and keep it SIMPLE!  Instead of buying a variety of alcoholic beverages, which can be challenging as well as costly, why not serve one signature drink that you can make by the pitcher!  Below are two great sangria recipes from Real Simple magazine that can be made quickly and easily (and feel free to use other varieties of fruit).  You could also try pitchers of mojitos, margaritas or another favorite cocktail.

And as for food….don’t try to do it all yourself!  You can get your guests involved by making it a pot-luck style meal.  Let them know you will provide hamburgers, hotdogs, buns and condiments (or maybe skewers of beef, chicken and sausages), and ask guests to bring an appetizer, side dish or dessert.  You will get variety and provide the opportunity for everyone to share in the preparation and expense.  This approach allows the whole group to feel involved and gives you time to focus on the other tasks at hand.

Have a great holiday gathering, and let yourself have FUN instead of being tied to the kitchen and bar.  You deserve it!

  1. Great post, Donna! We are partaking of such an event this weekend...I'm making berry tarts...I get little ladyfinger shells that I fill with layers of whipped cream, blueberries, and raspberries. They are ridiculously popular because they are sweet and tangy and yet a little bit healthy. :) I'm so glad you posted this...when I entertain, I never ask people to bring anything, but I realize that it's OK to ask. I also love the idea of a signature drink...that would be good along with a regular supply of beer. Adds a little bit of class. :) Hope you have a wonderful Labor Day!!! :)
